Urinary Tract Infection (UTI); Causes, Symptoms, Investigations, Risks, Herbal Treatments and Self Management.


        Urinary tract is the system that makes urine and carries it out of our body. It consists bladder,  kidneys and the tubes that connect them. When pathogens get into this system, they can cause an infection by and that condition is known as Urinary tract infection. it is very common for in all ages and sex. In our day to day practice we use to get plenty of such cases. There are plenty of variety in infections in terms of site and involvement of pathogens and it's longevity. Escherichia coli (59.4 percent), Klebsiella (15.7 percent) and Enterococcus faecalis (8.1 percent) are the most common pathogens.
  • Infections in the bladders is not so serious and it is the most commonest site of infection it is called as cystitis.
  • But untreated cases turns to complications such as spreading of infection in the Kidneys called as nephritis.
         Pathogens generally introduced them selves to our body through urethra. Then infection spreads all over the bladder and makes a home there. Any infection always causes some inflammation in the bladder and tracks. which causes burning micturation and difficulty in removing of waste liquid from body which further deteriorates the condition and still patient remains untreated then infection spreads towards upper and reaches to the kidneys and that condition is really threatening.

Causes

  1. Less intake of fluids commonly seen in the winter season.
  2. Expose to hot and sunny atmosphere for a long time.
  3. Stone formation in the Urinary Tract
  4. Excess intake of alcohols
  5. Retention of urine for a prolong time which is commonly seen in women and specially in outdoor activities or journeys.
  6. Intake of excessive Steroids
  7. Sharing of public toilets is a major cause in womens as the contact distance is less and due to short length of urethra infection generally spreads quickly.
  8. Sharing of undergarments 
  9. Unhygienic life style
  10. Patients suffering from STD sexually transmitted diseases 

Symptoms

  1. Painful micturition means pain during passing urine 
  2. Burning sensation in urethra after passing urine  (If this is the only symptom, then the infection is most likely urethritis, an infection limited to the urethra.)
  3. Increase in frequency of urination 
  4. Urgency for passing urine, which may recur immediately after the bladder is emptied.
  5. Fear for passing urine
  6. Mild to sever raise of temperature with chill and rigor (Occasionally)
  7. Pain in the lower abdomen (just 3/4 finger bellow

  10. The urine often has a strong smell, looks cloudy, or contains blood. This is a sign of pyuria, or a high white blood cell count in the urine, and is a very reliable indicator of urinary tract infections.

  12. Vomiting and nausea.

  2. Urine for Culture and sensitivity

  4. Blood sugar 
  5. Serum Urea
  6. Serum Creatinine
  7. Stool Routine Examination
  8. X ray plain abdomen (KUB)
  9. USG whole abdomen

Complication

  1. Hydronephrosisthe swelling of a kidney due to a back-up of urine where underlying pathology may be obstruction due to infection. 
  1. Loss of Libido is very commonly seen with other symptoms.
  2. Kidney infection, medically known as pyelonephritis, can happen when bacteria travel from the bladder to the kidneys.
  3. Kidney failure is when the kidneys stop working properly
  4. Sepsis is a rare, but potentially fatal, complication of kidney infection. It happens when bacteria spreads from the kidneys into the bloodstream

Home remedies

  1. Plenty amount of fluid orally is mast and it is most effective way to wash out the germs from the body
  2. Juice of Punarnava ( Boerhavia diffusa) plant is very much effective in UTI
  3. Juice of Pashanbedh (Bryophyllum pinnata) is good when taken with powder of Gukshur (Tribulus terrestris) in UTI.
  4. Paste of Sandal wood and rose water withg pasahnbedh Boerhavia diffusa) locally Pelvic(Supra) is very effective.
  5. Cold Milk is effective along with plenty of sugar.
  6. Tea is a very good diuretic.
  7. Coconut water is considered as useful in UTI
  8. Gukshur (Tribulus terrestris) seeds with Roots of Aswagandha  

Medicines **

  1. Chandrapravha Vati 2 tablets twice daily after food.
  2. Subhra Parpati 1 tsf twice with water
  3. Javaskar half tsf twice daily with water
  4. Punarnavadhi Mandoor 2 tab twice daily after food.
  5. Chandanadhi Vati 2 tablets twice daily after food
  6. Gocchuradhi Guggulu 2/3 tablets twice daily after food
  7. Chandrakala Ras 2 tablets twice daily after food
  8. Varunadhya louha 2 tablets twice daily after food
  9. Chandanadhi Louha 2/3 tablets twice daily after food
  10. Brihat Bangeswer Ras 2 tablets twice daily after food
  11. Punarnavadhi Guggulu 2/3 tablets twice daily after food
  12. Punarnavasava 4 tsf twice daily after food with half glass water.
  13. Goukshuradhi Guggulu 2 tab twice daily after food
  14. Tab. Cystone 2 tablets thrice daily after food
  15. Tab. Neo 2 tablets twice daily after food
  16. Tab. Calcurry 2 tablets thrice/twice daily after food
  17. Tab. Neeri 2 tablets twice/thrice daily after food
  18. Tab. Distone 2 tablets twice/thrice daily after food
  19. Syp  Neeri 2 tsf thrice daily after food
  20. Syp. Flush 2 tsf thrice daily after food
  21. Syp. Flow Rine 2 tsf thrice daily after food
  22. Syp. Alka5 2 tsf thrice daily after food
