Cystitis: Ayurvedic & Herbal Treatment

A very common disease that can be seen worldwide. A prolong case of untreated or wrongly treated UTI can be the main cause of Cystitis. Most of the cause UTI remain for a long time when sufferer doesn't develops any critical symptoms and thus such cases remains untreated. Thanks to the modern investigation tools that helped us to diagnose Cystitis correctly. In Ayurveda also there are plenty of drugs and herbs mentioned for Cystitis    
        The inflammatory condition of Urinary bladder known as Cystitis.

Causes:

  • Fewer intakes of fluids commonly seen in the winter season.
  • Expose to hot and sunny atmosphere for a long time.
  • Stone formation in the Urinary Tract.
  • Excess intake of alcohols.
  • Retention of urine for a prolong time which is commonly seen in women and especially in outdoor activities or journeys.
  • Intake of excessive Steroids.
  • Sharing of public toilets is a major cause in women as the contact distance is less and due to short length of urethra, infection generally spreads quickly.
  • Sharing of undergarments.
  • Unhygienic life style.
  • Primary infection from STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) causing germs like Gonococcus, Chlamydia etc.
  •  E Coli Infection

Symptoms:

  • Painful micturition means pain during passing urine.
  • Burning sensation in urethra after passing urine  (If this is the only symptom, then the infection is most likely urethritis, an infection limited to the urethra.)
  • Increase in frequency of urination.
  • Urgency for passing urine, which may recur immediately after the bladder, is emptied.
  • Fear for passing urine.
  • Mild to severe raise of temperature with chill and rigor (Occasionally).
  • Pain in the lower abdomen (just 3/4 finger bellow the Umbilicus).
  • The urine often has a strong smell, looks cloudy, or contains blood. This is a sign of pyuria, or a high white blood cell count in the urine, and is a very reliable indicator of urinary tract infections.
  • Pain in the pelvic area or back. w the umbilicus.
  • Vomiting and nausea.
  • Collection of residual urine in bladder.

  • Urine routine examination
  • Urine for Culture and sensitivity
  • Blood Routine Examination
  • Blood sugar
  • Serum Urea
  • Serum Creatinine
  • Stool Routine Examination
  • X ray plain abdomen (KUB)
  • USG whole abdomen

Complications:

  • Hydronephrosis, the swelling of a kidney due to a backup of urine where underlying pathology may be obstruction due to infection.
  • Loss of Libido is very commonly seen with other symptoms.
  • Kidney infection, medically known as pyelonephritis, can happen when bacteria travel from the bladder to the kidneys.
  • Kidney failure is when the kidneys stop working properly.
  • Sepsis is a rare, but potentially fatal, complication of kidney infection. It happens when bacteria spreads from the kidneys into the bloodstream

Home Remedies:

  • Plenty amount of fluid orally is mast and it is most effective way to wash out the germs from the body.
  • Juice of Punarnava ( Boerhavia diffusa) plant is very much effective in UTI.
  • Juice of Pashanbedh (Bryophyllum pinnata) is good when taken with powder of Gukshur (Tribulus terrestris) in UTI.
  • Paste of Sandal wood and rose water with Pasahnbedh ( Boerhavia diffusa) locally Pelvic(Supra) is very effective.
  • Cold Milk is effective along with plenty of sugar.
  • Tea is a very good diuretic.
  • Coconut water is considered as useful in UTI.
  • Gukshur (Tribulus terrestris) seeds with Roots of Aswagandha
