Cause:
- It is caused by salmonella typhi a kind of bacteria.
- It is also caused by salmonella paratyphi.
Mode of Transmission:
These bacteria spread
through contaminated food or water. During acute illness a single person can be
a dangerous carrier. His stool contains high concentration of bacteria which
can survive for four weeks in the water or dried sewages. Few effected people
carry the bacteria with in their body for many years. Incubation period is 5-14 days.

Symptoms:
First Stage (0-7 days)
- Malaise.
- Loss of appetite.
- Headache.
- Cough.
- Sore Throat.
- Coated Tongue with Red Margin.
- Mild Abdominal Pain.
- Constipation.
- Fever ascends in a ladder fashion.
Second Stage (7-10 days)
- Exhausted feeling.
- Constipation.
- Pea Soup Diarrhea.
- Abdominal Distention.
Stage Three (10-14 days)
- Spleenomegaly
- Abdominal Distention.
- Tenderness of abdomen.
- Bradycardia.
- Rashes (Rose Spots in the trunk).
- Sever Weakness.
Investigation:
- Blood CBC.
- Widal Test (Shows positive report on or after 2nd week).
- Blood Culture.
Complications:
- Intestinal Hemorrhage
- Intestinal Perforation
- Secondary abdominal infection.
- 75% death on 30% untreated cases.
Required Lifestyle Modification:
- Bed Rest
- Avoid outdoor activities.
- Plenty amount of fluid orally.
- Balanced diet.
- Low fat consumption.
- Plenty of fruit juice.
- Vegetable soup.
- Avoid junk food.
- Avoid milk and milk products.
- Avoid excessive works.
Medicine:
- Giloy Satva: 1 tsf twice with honey
- Joymangal Ras: 125 mg twice daly
- Sanjivani Vati: 2 tablet twice daily
- Soubhagya Vati: 2 tab twice daily
- Amritarista: 4 tsf twice daily after food with half glass water. (not suitable for diabetic patients)
